Title: Bot Suggestion

RobLucci - June 27, 2007 03:12 PM (GMT)
clearly there is a serious problem with the bots.

While it can't just be solved with the click of a button, something needs to be done. Some of the staff is doing an ok job of cleaning them up, but the response time is weak. as i sit here typing this, there is bot thread for incest pr0n just chilling in the welcome forum.

suggestion: make a user group specifically designed to remove these bots (power to delete/edit threads and that's all) and select 1 or 2 very active members to clean up the mess. Any abuse of the powers will result in the loss of said powers.

I don't want to say it's a staff problem, but these pr0n and drug bots need to be cleaned up. Just editing the post content isn't enough, and those with the power to remove them are not online enough to be effective.

Thoughts?

Meh,I used to delete the topics, but Numel told me once that the admins want us only to edit the posts so that the admins can IP ban them, but obviosly the admins aren't on enough for that to work.

I agree, we need to do something, especially considering the first 5 or 6 topics in the Members Into section are all bots.

perhaps they could make a hidden forum only the mods can see called "trash can"? and just relocate the topics so they can be IP banned from there.

I know there used to be one in the hidden admin forum. but that doesn't help you guys.

Thats a great Idea because seriously Incest is like the eww no fing way dose anyone in their right mind wanna see that.

Yondaime - June 27, 2007 06:51 PM (GMT)
Yea make a forum '' trash'' or whatever so that the mods can move the topics to that place that way they wont be deleted and also wont be seen on the forum by other members . That way admins have some time to IP ban them .

Its extra help to make such an usergroup , but it would be wiser to select someone who is active to give admin spot and then that person reselects some members for the job of cleaning .

I like the "trash Forum" idea.

chaosmage - June 27, 2007 09:16 PM (GMT)
Trash forum it is then?

RobLucci - June 28, 2007 03:13 AM (GMT)
go pr0 suggestion from me.

[Chaos]Knight - June 28, 2007 08:05 AM (GMT)
Um, question? If admins have acess to a members account in the ACP, cant they see the IP from there? Just delete the topic and give the name of the member to an administrator. =] Either idea works.

Yondaime - June 28, 2007 01:36 PM (GMT)
Admins arent active so it most likely wont work . Like I said make someone who's active and trustable admin and let that person make a bot destroy group .

finding a skilled trustworthy person is hard on this board. Everyone's either untrustworthy, inactive, doesnt care enough or wants this board to die.

mikahael - June 29, 2007 03:42 PM (GMT)
I'm active enough but I don't think I'd make a great Admin.

This got posted on somewhere ages ago.

Make a new user group for new members, make it so they have to post 10 times before letting them into the actual member group, but while being in the new member group, make it so they can't start new topics, because bots can normally only start topics, not reply.

hope this helps.
