| Hello, Kyle here and welcome to Duelist Republic's "Crushing the Meta" article. This week, the card which has been chosen causes Monarch decks to run home with their tails between their legs, runs down any of your opponents monsters with 1,500 attack points or more, and has been long anticipated: the Crush Card Virus. Let us first discuss some of the decks that you can see this in. This card, which has recently been released and is nearly impossible to aquire, can be found in the popular Diamond Dude Turbo decks. This is a fitting placement, as DDT decks require copious amounts of money to build because many of the cards which are required in them are rare and quite expensive (ex. Destiny Hero-Malicious, Destiny Draw, Dark Magician of Chaos, and Magical Stone Excavation). As of late, our good friend Destiny Hero-Disk Commander has been seeing some play in Diamond Dude Turbo decks, and I use the term some very liberally. When Destiny Hero-Disk Commander is Special Summoned, the controller of the card can draw two cards from his or her deck, its a level one with 300 attack and defense points. If Crush Card Virus isnt mained in here, and you have one, it might be worth trying out since its capatable with cards like Destiny Hero-Fear Monger, Destiny Hero-Malicious and the one we just mentioned, Destiny Hero-Disk Commander. Lets not forget, if you tribute Malicious for Crush Card Virus, you can still get Malicious' effect and Special Summon another one from your deck. Next we're going to talk about a deck I recently constructed and how it works around Crush Card Virus. The Viral Kuriboh deck works around quickly attaining or picking out Kuribohs from your deck with Flute of Summoning Kuriboh and using it as a tribute for Crush Card Virus, but there is more to it than this. Here is how this deck should look: Monsters: Kuriboh x3 Winged Kuriboh x3 Sky Scourge Norleras x3 Bite Shoes x2 Shining Angel x2 Mask of Darkness x2 Winged Kuriboh LV10 Sangan Spirit Reaper Night Assailant Morphing Jar Spells: Flute of Summoning Kuriboh x3 Messenger of Peace x3 Transcendent Wings x2 Card Destruction Heavy Storm Mystical Space Typhoon Premature Burial Snatch Steal Level Limit - Area B Traps: Trap Dustshoot x2 Crush Card Virus Torrential Tribute Mirror Force Ring of Destruction This decks performance depends on your draws, which normally should not be a problem for you if you built the deck right. This deck is meant on stalling and protecting yourself until you pull Sky Scourge Norleras out with Kuribohs, Level Limit - Area B and Messenger of Peace. Using Crush Card Virus to get rid of your opponents bigger threats in case you dont have Messengers or Level Limit - Area B out, and most of the time you get an advantage with this. Between Crush Card Virus, Trap Dustshoots, Stall and Card Destruction/Morphing Jar, you can pull out Norleras while killing your opponents cards. Now let us discuss another deck, the infamous Dark Scorpions. Back in the days of Dark Crisis, Invasion of Chaos and so on, some of the Dark Scorpion cards saw plenty of play. None more than Don Zaloog, however, those who could not get a hold of "The Don" used simple replacements. The other Dark Scorpion monsters, such as Dark Scorpion - Meanae the Thorn, Chick the Yellow and Cliff the Trap Remover were all seeing play back in these days, and now you still see Meanae in play. As of late I have realized that even Dark Scorpion - Gorg the Strong could possibly see play as well because of its devastating effect to return a monster your opponent controls to the top of his or her deck. This brings another Raiza into the game, just as Legendary Jujitsu Master did. However, Gorg allows you to select another monster, rather than the one that attacked you. With all of this said and done, let us rate this card on how well it does in todays meta and traditionally. For the fun of it, let us also rate the art work of this devastating card. Advanced Format: Well, like some cards, this card can dominate the game now due to decks, like the ones above, as well as decks such as Monarchs. With the abuse this card has, this card has to recieve a rating of 5/5 in the Advanced Format of play. Traditional Format: Need I really go here? This card in the Traditional Format of play would dominate much more than it would in the Advanced Format, it would be just as bad as Chaos Emperor Dragon and Yata Garasu being back at 1 on the list. In the Traditional Format of play, Crush Card Virus recieves a rating of 5/5. Artwork: I love the feel and the coloring, this gives the card the full virus feeling to it, not much to be said here about the artwork. This cards artwork gets a rating of 4/5. Until next time, Kyle Rotharmel |
